Employee Spotlight : Shruti Talebailker
Lead Executive – Human Resources
Meet Shruti, our HR colleague whose career journey is unusual. After her graduation, Shruti joined the Lokmanya Co-operative Society, Belgaum, as a front office staff member. In 2019, she moved over to Bangalore to join GrayMatter as a front office executive, a role which helped her understand how organizations function, strengthened her communication, and taught her multitasking, all valuable skills that enabled her smooth transition in 2021 to Human Resources (HR) function, a job profile she adores. Shruti has completed five-plus years with us. She is a trained classical dancer.
“I love my role at HR, as it helps me build a positive work culture, foster employee engagement, and make the workplace better for everyone. HR is a dynamic profession that constantly presents new challenges, allows me to connect with various people, and throws open continuous learning opportunities. It keeps me motivated and involved”, says Shruti.
In this month’s employee spotlight interview, Shruti discusses Empathy, one of our company’s five core values.
What Empathy Means to Me
Empathy resonates deeply with me because it ties into understanding and supporting others. It helps build stronger relationships and fosters collaboration in both personal and professional contexts.
The motto/principle that I follow at work
My work motto is to put myself in others’ shoes before judging or forming an opinion. Understanding others’ points of view is essential before jumping to conclusions or forming an opinion about them. I can make better decisions and foster a collaborative, supportive work environment by empathizing with my colleagues and clients.
How Empathy helps me in my work
I stay motivated, firstly because I love my job and enjoy doing what I do. I also set my personal goals to align with the team goals so that my personal growth and the team’s success go together. Seeing how my efforts contribute to the company’s growth drives me to push through the challenges and continually improve my performance.
Dealing with work-life balance
I believe prioritizing tasks and time is essential for achieving a work-life balance. Therefore, I set clear boundaries at work and allocate time to recharge and rejuvenate outside work by doing things that I like a lot, like dancing, traveling, etc. Ensuring a balance between work and life is a key to long-term success and leading a less stressed life. Taking care of our mental and physical well-being is essential to bring our best selves to work.
Suggestions to junior colleagues
Take the time to learn from everyone around you, whether it’s through formal mentorship or just listening and observing. The journey is about continuous learning. Being open to new ideas and feedback will help advance your career growth and make your work more effective and efficient.
